Need Calls to Support Raw Milk

Act Now! This Legislative Session Ends Soon

We need your help to legalize direct farm-to-consumer sales of raw milk in Minnesota!

HF 255 and SF 147 would legalize sales of raw milk directly from farmers to consumers. Farmers could sell directly to consumers without being licensed by the state as long as they sold only on-farm or through delivery arrangements made directly with the consumer.

HF 255 and SF 147 would NOT allow re-selling or sales at grocery stores or farmers markets.

Please take action by March 10 or the bill will effectively die for this year.

Call or email your two legislators, the two Agriculture Committee chairs, and Governor Dayton to let them know how important raw milk is to you.

Dear (insert government official name here),

I, _______________, strongly support the following Minnesota Raw Milk Access Bill, HF 255/ SF 147, and would like you to support it as well.

This proposed change to MN Statute Section 32.393 would protect the right of farmers of unpasteurized milk and food products to deliver their products directly to their customers. Upon passage of these bills, these products, already legally available foods in Minnesota, could be delivered to homes, private food clubs, etc. As you may know, raw milk is legal to buy and consume, but it is not legal for the farmer to take it off the farm and deliver it to you or to a specified drop site.

Please note that this is essentially a transportation bill, not a retail sales bill, allowing reasonable delivery options for an already legal food. It is about farmers bringing their food to their customers, much like a vegetable CSA.

It is important to remove the need for customers to each drive to the farm for pick-up of their products. The law must be updated to ensure the right of private delivery and improve access to match modern farm-to-consumer commerce. This access is of vital importance for consumer health freedom and food choice, as well as directly beneficial for dairy farmers and their communities across the state of Minnesota, given the significant price difference of such products. This bill is supportive of farmers and small family farms and could help reduce the state's health care costs given the many healing benefits of farm-fresh raw milk.  Lastly, it alleviates the driving hazards and inefficiency of requiring each individual customer to drive great distances to obtain these foods.

I urge you to support Minnesota citizens to make their own choices about the benefits and risks of raw milk.

Thank you for your support and consideration.

Sincerely,

(add your name, address and any personal notes)
