All Proceeds Benefit the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund

The Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund (FTCLDF) is a true grassroots organization and receives no government funding and little or no corporate funding. Our main sources of revenue are membership fees, individual donations, and grants for public interest litigation (PIL) from our sister organization, the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation (FTCF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports farmers engaged in sustainable farm stewardship and promotes consumer access to raw milk and local foods.
One of the cases that the FTCF supported in 2013 through PIL funds granted to the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund was the State of Wisconsin vs. Hershberger. The Hershberger verdict represents the greatest court success to date for raw milk producers and consumers in the U.S.
In 2014, the PIL funds will continue to help Anthony Bavuso to pay his legal expenses to continue to operate the commercial oyster farm on his residential property and Mark Baker to fight the court fine of $700,000 for violating the swine invasive

GMOs, damaging legislation, and oppressive regulations need to be stopped before they can get far; FTCLDF is poised to offer advocacy, action alerts and support for grassroots efforts to stop or reverse the onslaught. Supporting FTCLDF also supports the work to improve the regulatory climate and prevent potential issues from arising.
Here are just some of our ongoing cases that need funding in the coming year:
Libby Buchler of Shady Grove Farm.
Shady Grove Farm in Michigan was protected by the Right to Farm Act.
Right-to-Farm and Backyard Poultry Challenges - These cases are increasing exponentially at the local and county levels, but we have limited funds as yet to handle the many calls that come in.
Swine Invasive Species Order (ISO) - We are directly funding legal expenses for the Mark Baker case. We are administering a litigation fund for the Turunen case that is being funded through a grant from Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
Raw Milk Access - We will continue to challenge the legality of FDA's ban on the interstate distribution of raw milk for human consumption.
Upcoming Legislative Session - In many states, we will continue to advocate for the right to choose the foods of our choice from the sources of our choice.
Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) - We will continue to alert our subscribers of the latest FSMA news affecting produce growers and food buying clubs like never before.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) - We will continue to pursue ways to protect sustainable family farms and artisan food producers to make GMO-free products available to consumers. We are currently party to a lawsuit against Monsanto to protect farmers from being sued over "patent infringement" when their fields are contaminated by Monsanto GMO seeds.

Membership benefits include the possibility of representation in court; the Fund typically pays for all court costs. The Fund is not an insurance company and cannot guarantee representation on all legal matters. Your membership fees and donations help to keep local food sources available and preserve family farms facing unjust enforcement actions.
