Attorney Pete Kennedy, Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund President and Farm-to-Consumer Foundation Vice President, will be your host.
This week's guest is Mike Hulme of Evergreen Acres Goat Farm, who operates a herdshare in San Jose and has recently come under attack by CDFA--the California Department of Food and Agriculture--going so far as to involve the San Jose District Attorney's office to shut down the program if it does not become a licensed to "manufacture or process for resale any milk or milk products."
Unfortunately, the Hulme's are not the only farmers in California coming under attack for operating herdshare programs without also being licensed by CDFA--more about that during the show.

Mike and his wife Jane have run a goat herdshare for six years which has grown to include almost 200 shareholders with ownership interests in a herd of more than thirty goats.
Just this past week the Hulmes met with the Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney while many shareowners and supporters demonstrated in the lobby (some pictured in the photo below).

The Hulmes are not interested in investing thousands of dollars in the equipment and buildings necessary to become a full-scale dairy. Threatened with a possible fine of $10,000 plus jail time, they have suspended milk distribution to the shareowners.
