The dairy industry has petitioned the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve the inclusion of chemical sweeteners (e.g., aspartame) as part of the 'standard of identity' for milk and 17 other dairy products, including yogurt, eggnog and cream.
If these dairy items are used as ingredients in other foods, the label will simply state "milk" or "cream", etc., without mention of the additives.
