Canadian Raw Milk Crusader Ends
Thirty-Seven Day Hunger Strike

Raw milk crusader Michael Schmidt in Canada has abandoned his hunger strike after meeting with Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty on November 4, 2011.

Schmidt began his hunger strike in late September after he was found guilty on 15 of 19 charges related to the sale and distribution of raw milk.

The Durham farmer, who has been fighting for years for the right to sell unpasteurized milk, had a meeting with the premier’s chief of staff when McGuinty decided to join in.

A spokeswoman for McGuinty says the meeting went well, and Schmidt was invited to speak to the Liberal caucus, but the government will not change its position to allow the sale of raw milk….’

MICHAEL WILL BE A SPEAKER AT WISE TRADITIONS 2011.  Don't miss Michael's talk on biodynamic bovine health on Friday, November 11, and to meet and talk with Michael throughout the conference.

About Schmidt
If the subject of raw milk interests you, you've probably heard about Ontario dairy farmer Michael Schmidt. For many years, Michael has produced raw milk for human consumption under an arrangement called "cow-sharing". No-one has ever gotten sick from drinking the milk from Michael's farm, but that doesn't matter to the Ontario government. Read more at the Canadian Constitution Foundation.

Michael has been a biodynamic farmer with a master degree in Agriculture for over 33 years. Born in Germany, he came to Canada in 1983 and has been instrumental in massive changes towards the awareness of the cultural importance of agriculture. A scholar of Gandhi and Martin Luther King he continuously promotes and urges others to adopt civil disobedience and the nonviolent approach in court and daily life. In light of the significance of this food rights battle he helps farmers and consumer to be fully prepared to make real sacrifices in order to win this crucial rights battle for the sake of our children.
