We should have the right to know what is in the food we eat.
We shouldn't have to wonder whether we will be eating food that contains toxic chemicals and nutrition-deficient ingredients. Please let the American people decide for themselves what they want to eat, by allowing them to read labels on the foods they buy indicating whether they contain GMOs.

We have a right to know what is in our food. There is nothing less democratic than removing someone' right to choose. If there is nothing bad about the ingredients, why fear putting them on the label? If there is something detrimental about them, how can you not let consumers choose what they are putting in their body?? Conscience over Capitalism -- it must prevail here or else our democracy is a total farce.

Subject: Oppose HR 1599 and protect states' and individuals' rights

As a constituent, I urge you to reject H.R. 1599, the so-called "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act," which would prohibit states from requiring the labeling of genetically engineered foods, or GMOs.

We have a right to know what is in our food so that we can make educated decisions about the food we eat. This bill does not meet the concerns of Americans about what's in their food. What it really does is deny states the right to pass meaningful mandatory GMO food labeling bills.

The free market can only work when consumers have the information they need to make informed choices among different products. It is absurd to claim that voluntary labeling addresses the issue. In the 14 years that FDA has allowed companies to voluntarily label genetically engineered foods, not one single company has done so. Without mandatory labeling, consumers are effectively being defrauded.

The bill goes even further by forbidding state and local governments from any sort of oversight of GMO crops, even when the federal government has declined or failed to regulate them. Yet these local controls have been adopted in areas based on overwhelming public support, and in order to protect very valuable non-GMO agricultural industries. It is undemocratic and bad for our economy to overturn these local laws.

Please stand up for states' and consumers' rights and vote NO on H.R. 1599 or any bill that would pre-empt state laws on GMO labeling.

Sincerely,
Jim Smith

You know the right thing to do. DO IT! The government has no right to deny this information. We have the right to truthfully label anything and we have the right to know what we are feeding our families. Monsanto knows that their Frankenfood is harmful. Why else would they bother getting into your pockets? Stac

I feel I have the right to know what my food is. I believe it is my right and government does NOT have the right to make that decision for me. Support constituents NOT Big Biz.

Dear Distinguished Representatives:

I care deeply about the quality of the food I purchase and consume. A large portion of my family's income goes to purchase organic vegetables and grass-fed / pastured beef, poultry, lamb, and pork. For this reason I request that GMOs be labeled. We the consumers have a right to know what is in our food and where it comes from.

As a constituent, I urge you to reject H.R. 1599, the so-called "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act," which would prohibit states from requiring the labeling of genetically engineered foods, or GMOs.

Respectfully, JP Timmerman

Its Time to say NO to H.R. 1599!
when a major company like Mansanto calls the shots and puts dangerous chemicals/pestisides into all of our foods, there's no telling the full effect our future generations will incur. Presently, there are so many ill health situations that are occuring that it is mind boggling...and dangerous! It's similar to a Frankenstein experiment on the American people. And yes, that includes you, my WV State Representative, too.

Right to Know GMO's. That really is a no brainer if you know the facts. GMO's should actually be outlawed. How about if Monsanto were encouraged to make up for all the damage they have done to mankind and the environment. How about the government require them to create something that actually helps mankind, animals and the environment. How about we turn a new leaf. Here's a brilliant new concept. What if our government(you included) expends it's energy and wisdom by encouraging, challenging and rewarding Monsanto to use their vast wealth, power and expertise to leave an everlasting positive legacy on mankind. They are more than capable of giving mankind a boost in many fields. Now that would be a step in the right direction. Be brave!!! Think about it!!! Act upon it!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE vote no on this issue. I do not want to eat any GMO's and I believe I have the right to know what kind of food I am putting in my body. Whether GMO's are safe or not is NOT the issue. I should have the right to know exactly what I am eating!

If we truly want to improve the health of Americans, then Americans have the right to know what is in their food and what they are putting into their bodies. If we believe in protecting the rights of US citizens, then we, US citizens, have a right to know what ingredients are in the food that we are putting into our bodies.

Dear Senators,
I am a concerned citizen who wants to urge you to vote no on HR 1599 so that I am allowed the right to know what is in my food. Bills put into law should be for the good of your constituents, and I want to remind you that this bill exists not for our good but for the profit of companies such as Monsanto who care nothing for our well being. Furthermore, it is important for states to retain the right to pass their own laws regarding GMO labeling based on the votes of local residents. States' rights is a huge part of what American Democracy was founded on, was it not?
Please consider my concern, thank you.

I urge you to reject H.R. 1599, the so-called "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act," which would prohibit Georgia from requiring the labeling of genetically engineered foods (GMOs).

We consumers have a right to know what is in our food so that we can make educated decisions about the foods we eat. The vast majority of Americans want to know what they are eating... this bill does not meet this need. What it really does is deny states the right to pass meaningful mandatory GMO food labeling bills.

So many countries have banned GMOs... why hasn't the US? Because Monsanto et al are paying big bucks for Obama to appoint their people into the FDA, and EPA departments. Shame on you for accepting payments. GMOs are NOT safe, and the record shows they are also NOT Drought resistant. Please VETO This Bill!

States (and consumers) should be free to choose whether they want to restrict labeling of these GMO's and this bill would take away that right. If you truly care about what your constituents (and consumers) want, you would mandate labeling of these GMO's rather than prohibiting the labeling of these highly questionable and possibly dangerous foods.

I urge you to reject this bill.
Thank you.

I have greatly improved since removing GMO-containing foods from my diet. My extensive research has shown numerous harmful effects from, in particular, transgenic GMOs now prevalent in our food supply (primarily in processed foods containing corn, soy, canola and sugarbeets). Roundup (the herbicide sprayed on Roundup-Ready GMOs) is also regularly used as a drying agent on non-GMO crops such as wheat and legumes. Besides other issues with Roundup, it was patented as a pipe descaler (binds with minerals to allow easier removal) and as an antibiotic. Reducing the essential minerals all human bodies need can cause health disorders. We are also seeing the effects of the overuse of antibiotics, mainly from factory farmed meat, but this herbicide adds to our overexposure.

As it stands, without labeling, it is nearly impossible for consumers to know which foods contain GMOs. It is also impossible for scientists and regulators to monitor the effects of GMOs on consumers without knowing what foods contain them.
